Are pastors’ bizarre acts godly?

Polokwane residents have their say about pastors and their shenanigans

POLOKWANE – Pastors have in recent months come under fire for several bizarre occurrences in their churches that range from making members of their congregations eat snakes and rats, drink petrol and to swallowing fresh semen.

Polokwane Express asked residents what they thought of these acts.

Queen Sekgotha said she thought it was all evil.

“I think it is evil, how can you give someone something that is not meant to be eaten and make them say it tastes like something different. It is weird to me. The congregation does not think straight and because they want to get better, they will do anything. I definitely wouldn’t do something like that,” she says.

Arthur Ash agreed with Queen, adding that it was the work of the devil.

“I think it is absolutely evil; some pastors these days only do things for the money. They are not godly in any way. The only way to solve this problem is to deliver some mob justice. They need to be punished for doing these things to people.”

Katlego Matlwa said these self-proclaimed men of God should be arrested.

“They should be arrested for putting people’s lives in danger. You cannot tell someone to eat something that is not meant to be eaten, it is just wrong. And it is unfair because they themselves wouldn’t do it.”

Chireletso Malotane said: “personally, I think that when God was busy performing his miracles, he did not do these kinds of things. He used things that were available to him. I think these people are fake pastors, even the Bible says that in the last days people will use God’s name to attract crowds”.

Kgotlelelo Mphahlele said she also thought it was wrong.

“I think it is wrong for someone who says he is a pastor to use things such as snakes to ‘heal’ people. I wish they would use their words instead. What they are doing is very wrong.”

Tebelelo Mphahlele said she was against this practise.

“I am against this; I feel like since people in the township do not know a lot about God, they fall for anything anyone says to them. People must spread the word of God so that they know about the fake prophets that are out there.”
