Lim Promoters demand answers from Boxing South Africa (BSA)

Limpopo boxing promoters are still fuming over the boxing tournament that was due to take place in Thohoyandou being offered to the Eastern Cape on the 'eleventh hour'.

LIMPOPO – Limpopo boxing promoters are still fuming over the boxing tournament that was due to take place in Thohoyandou being offered to the Eastern Cape on the ‘eleventh hour’.

This tournament which was supposed to be broadcast live on SABC from Thohoyandou Town Hall was offered to a former Eastern Cape ANC Youth League leader who staged the tournament in Mdantsane last Friday.

According to the promoters they are concerned about corruption in sport and have acquired acquired the services of an attorney to address their concerns regarding the tournament.

They also plan to raise the matter with the Public Protector, Adv Thuli Madonsela to probe if proper procedures were followed when the provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, national Department of Sport and Recreation and Boxing South Africa (BSA) moved the tournament to Mdantsane.

BSA Chairperson, Ntambi Ravele, says Limpopo boxing promoters should not link it with corruption

“They must check with the SABC and the Department of Sport and Recreation why the tournament was moved to the Eastern Cape,” Ravele said. “The provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Culture reported that they do not have money to assist in the staging of the tournament and this is why the privilege to stage the tournament was taken back by the national Department of Sport and Recreation.

The provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Culture was meeting with the promoters behind closed doors and could not be reached for comment.
