Should Zuma push for 3rd term as president?
Polokwane residents share their thoughts on whether president Jacob Zuma should push for a third term as president or not
POLOKWANE – With only two years left before the next national elections in 2017, South Africans are buzzing about what is in store for South Africa’s political future.
Express asked Polokwane residents whether Jacob Zuma should push for a third term as president or not.
Andani Ramatswana said Zuma had played his part in South Africa and it was time for him to step down.
“Zuma has done enough for this country. I believe in the saying, when a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest.”

Karabo Rashaka has had enough of Zuma. He said he believed if a new leader emerged, a lot of good changes could also arise from it.
“Since Nelson Mandela has passed away, things have changed within the political industry in South Africa. He has paved the way for the current leadership though they are failing us. I think having a woman president can be the solution to fix a lot of current problems in this country.”

“Since we celebrate 21 years of democracy and freedom this year, I don’t think leading the country for several terms is fair to other politicians and to us as well.
“Let the peace run in the political arena and let all politicians get an opportunity to lead this beautiful country,” Grace Raphesu added.

Dinner Mahasha thought Zuma should not opt for a third term as he has been involved in a lot of scandals.
“Better service delivery no longer reaches the people – some go to bed hungry everyday, while governmental funds have been used to upgrade Zuma’s private home. I think he has done enough and must step down from the presidential chair.”

Brifo Mosoma said he believed if Zuma stood for a third term, it would give rise to more fights in politics.
“We have witnessed a lot in our parliament due to Zuma’s governance. I think if Zuma vacates his presidential chair, it will result in peace in our country’s political sphere.”
