Nod of recognition for MECS achievers

THE Mokopane English Combined School (MECS) recently hosted it’s prestigious Gr 12 awards evening where the school applauded and congratulated all the recipients for their consistent hard work and dedication.

After a powerful speech by the principal, Dr Adriaan Lubbe, and an inspirational message from Trust Muzondo, representative of the school governing body, the learners received their awards.

Charles Smith (head boy), Eden Grosel (head girl), Mmasechaba Kgosana (deputy head girl), Abdullah Nanabava (deputy head boy), Kabelo Bapela, Andy Maisela, Evelyn Toona and Cathy Mahloana, the prefects for 2015, were awarded for their hard work and great example they set for their fellow learners during the year.

The following learners were awarded for a 75% or more average in the different subjects:

• English: Eden Grosel and Evelyn Toona.

• Afrikaans: Eden Grosel, Evelyn Toona and Charles Smith.

• Mathematics: Cathy Mahloana and Mmasechaba Kgosana.

• Physical Science: Eden Grosel.

• Life science: Eden Grosel, Evelyn Toona and Cathy Mahloana.

• Accounting: Mmasechaba Kgosana.

• Computer application techno-logy: Mmasechaba Kgosana.

• Life orientation: Evelyn Toona, Eden Grosel, Mmasechaba Kgosana, Cathy Mahloana, Faiza Gangat, Mosa Kekana, Tsakani Khumalo, Andy Maisela, Masodi

Makafola, Selby Maphalu, Boitumelo Matlou, Hawa Motala, Anas Patel, Charles Smith and Mothladi Songo.

Evelyn Toona achieved the certificate for the best achiever with a 83% average in English and a 98% average in life orientation. Eden Grosel boasts with this award in Afrikaans with a 82% average, in physical science with a 75 % average and in life science with a 85 % average. Cathy Mahloana reaped the fruits of her hard work with a 81% average in maths, Mmasechaba Kgosana achieved the certificate for the top student in accounting with an 82% average as well as in computer application technology with a 77% average.

Motladi Songo took the Spark Plug award, which is a special award given to the learner who has portrayed an exceptionally positive attitude, and who is always helpful and enthusiastic.

Learners who were never absent were congratulated. They were: Faaiza Gangat, Hawa Motala, Abdullah Nanabava and Andy Maisela.

The Dux award for the learner who excels academically, displays strong leadership qualities and maintains good discipline from Gr 10 to Gr 12, and was awarded to Eden Grosel.

The guests were entertained by items by some of the talented learners including Tshepo Maredi and Nazeerah Nanabava. Groups of Gr 6 and Gr 7 learners astonished everybody with their self-written items.

The school thanked all the teachers for their dedication and also all the parties involved in the support of the learners.
