MOKOPANE – After a thorough investigation by the local police, two suspects were arrested last Friday in connection with a house robbery at a smallholding at Uitkyk about 10 km outside of Mokopane.
James Seseko, the owner of the smallholding for the last nine years, told Bosveld on Monday that he lives in Polokwane and often visits the smallholding over weekends.
“My employees were asleep when four suspects entered through the front door at around 02:30 last Friday morning and threatened them with iron bars. The suspects took off with cell phones, a generator, a grinder and a drill.” He further said he is relieved his employees were not seriously injured and he is grateful for the swift action of the police which led to the arrest of two of the suspects.
Seseko said this is not the first time his smallholding has been the target of a robbery and he believes a former employee is providing these perpetrators with information.
According to Sgt Irene Masingi, spokesperson for the Mokopane police: “The police received at tip-off at around 20:30 last Friday with regards to the robbery. The Mahwelereng cluster trio task team, along with the Mokopane and Mahwelereng Criminal Intelligence Section (CIS) followed up on the information received and after an investigation two of the suspects were arrested.”
Baleseng Asaf Mabusela (37) and Eric Sibanda (32) were arrested in connection with the robbery after the police found Mabusela in the white bakkie used to load the stolen goods. The stolen generator was also found inside the bakkie. Sibanda was found in possession of the stolen drill and grinder.
Masingi further reported: “Mabusela and Sibanda appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“The case was postponed to 25 February for a formal bail application. The police are still following leads to arrest the remaining two suspects.”
The Mahwelereng Cluster Commander, Brig Dikeledi Mangena, applauded the hard work of the members that led to the arrest of the perpetrators. She further extended her gratitude to the community for giving them information which might lead to the arrest of the two suspects. “By working together we can ensure a safe and secure environment.”
