DA helps to relieve water need in Mogalakwena

Members of the DA in Mokopane have been donating water on a weekly basis to numerous villages within Mogalakwena as these villages are suffering from acute water shortages

MOKOPANE – The DA recently formed the DA Water Project and have been receiving water donations from as far as Pretoria.

Jury and Elsabé Hayes from the Nederduitsch Hervormde Church community in Pretoria recently delivered 4 000 litres of water to help the DA with their project.

Since then various organisations from Pretoria have also donated water that accumulates to more than 8 000 litres.

According to a media statement by the DA: “The DA are delivering water to the villages in Mogalakwena that have been without water since October due to the municipality’s failure to initiate interim relief measures such as water tankers to all of the affected villages. The water crisis continues despite Mayor Parks Sebatjane’s assurance that the matter will be attended to by the dispatching of water tankers.”

The Divisional Head of Communications of the Mogalakwena Municipality, Malesela Selokela, commented on the above statement by saying: “The municipality has not failed the community. Under the leadership of Mayor Sebatjane, the municipality is working around the clock to resolve this current water crisis and it is a top priority. As for the water donations by the DA it is mind boggling, because for how long will they be able to sustain this project? Five litres of water is not sufficient enough to cook, bath or clean with. The municipality is in the process of finding a permanent resolution to this crisis.”

Beyers Smit, DA Political Head for Mogalakwena and Member of National Council of Provinces, told Bosveld:”It is true water is the new gold. We take water for granted while there are so many people that do not have the basic privilege of running water.”

If any of Boveld’s readers want to contribute to the project they can contact Yolandé Coetzee, DA Councillor of Ward 32, at 079 273 7386.
