23-year-old burnt alive for attacking woman
A 23-year-old man has been burnt to death by an angry mob after they accused him of murdering a woman in Ga-Matlala near Polokwane.
LIMPOPO – A 23-year-old man has been burnt to death by an angry mob after they accused him of murdering a woman in Ga-Matlala near Polokwane.
On Sunday 28 February at approximately 07:15 the half naked body of Karabo Kgomo (24) was found lying on the side of the road at Tibanefontein said Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.
“Indications are that the woman was assaulted with a brick on the head. It is also suspected that she might have been raped.”
According to Otto after the discovery the members of the community mobilised and accused Jeffrey Tumelo (13) of being responsible for the death of the woman.
When he attempted to flee from the angry crowd but he was overpowered, assaulted and set alight says Otto.
He died on the scene.
No arrests have yet been made in connection with either crime and investigations are continuing concludes Otto.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the province Lt Genl Fannie Masemola condemned this incident and urged community leaders and the religious fraternity to work with the police to bring the perpertrators of both murders to book. “We cannot allow members of the community to take the law into their own hands and brutally kill another human being to justify the killing of another” he said. “This community must now come together under the mantleship of their leaders to expose those responsible for these despicable deeds so that proper justice can be served” he said.
