‘We apologise to the community’ – Mayor Sebatjane
Residents of Mokopane are smiling from ear to ear as services at the Mogalakwena Municipality are back on track following a standstill for more than four weeks.

MOKOPANE – The municipal employees downed their tools on 10 March demanding that the benchmarking of salaries according to municipalities of the same grading system to be implemented.
After meetings with the Minster of CoGTA, Dawid van Rooyen a delegation of CoGSTA, the Mayor of Waterberg, Tlotlanang Mogotlane and ward councillors on Wednesday an agreement was reached… and on Thursday morning municipal employees returned to work.
According to a media statement by the Mogalakwena Municipality, Mayor Parks Sebatjane and the employees came to the following agreement: “The invocation of support measures to the municipality by national and provincial government in terms of Section 154 of the Constitution.
The municipality is committed to relax the court interdict barring workers from entering the municipal premises, provided that they enter the premises in order to work. The municipality will not victimize the workers following the recent strike. The municipality will not consider the no work, no pay principle.”
The statement further read: “We have directed management to priorities essential services in our effort restore services. We thank Minister van Rooyen, MEC Makhurupetje Waterberg District Executive Mayor Mogotlane and all senior government officials unreservedly and commit to ensure that the municipality learns from this episode and put in place a firm basis for sustainable, quality and effective governance and administration informed by the back to basics principles.”
“The non-delivery of services is regrettable as a result of the downing of tools and we apologise unreservedly to the community of Mogalakwena. Our offices are now open and functional. We will ensure that we find a long lasting solution to avoid a similar situation in the near future,” Sebatjane concluded.
