LIMPOPO – According to the Limpopo’s Blue and Green Drop report released by AfriForum, the water of 12 Limpopo towns is fit for human consumption.

“We want to continuously ensure South Africans’ constitutional right of access to clear, running water is protected,” says Hein Gonzales, AfriForum’s Limpopo Coordinator.
According to the Blue Drop report, the results reveal there has been a marked improvements from 2015 results. See the report below
AfriForum also tested the sewage quality (Green Drop status) in four towns.
Chris Boshoff, AfriForum’s Assistant Coordinator for Limpopo, says the 2016 Green Drop report indicates a decrease in water quality management.
- Groblersdal releases more than 1 000 E. coli per 100 ml water into natural resources
- Nylstroom releases more than 1 000 E. coli per 100 ml water into natural resources
- Phalaborwa releases more than 3 700 E. coli per 100 ml water into natural resources
“Only one town met the set microbiological standards. AfriForum will take the necessary steps to implement applicable remedies in these towns that had not met the standards. It is important that drinking water and sewage quality is tested continuously. We have to protect this life-essential resource,” concludes Boshoff.
