IDP consultation sessions successful

As part of community engagement the Mogalakwena Municipality has concluded the process of conducting the consultation drive on the 2016/2017 Integrated Development Plan (IDP), Mayoral Roadshow and Budget.

MOKOPANE -The 2016/2017 financial year for the municipality starts on 1 July and the consultation process has recently been conducted in all 32 wards of the municipality. All the consultative sessions were successful, except Mahwelereng which had to be rescheduled due to poor attendance.

According to a statement: “Chief among issues that were raised by the communities were: Poor maintenance of internal streets, district and provincial roads, poor maintenance of water schemes, poor monitoring of projects, village extensions not electrified, permanently appointment of pump operators, storm water management challenges, no budget for reducing unemployment, municipal budget not covering special groups, no cellphone network coverage in some areas, poor maintenance of high mast lights, need to collect refuse in rural areas and no report on projects that are taken out of IDPs.”

Mayor Parks Sebatjane said:” It is important for community members to attend public participation meetings so that their voice can be heard with regards to the running of the municipality. In fact, we were doing a confirmation of the projects that people proposed during the previous meetings. We wanted the residents input to be included in our working plan before we start with our new financial year.”

Sebatjane thanked all the community members and stakeholders who attended the meetings in large numbers.

Communities were given until 13 June to submit their written inputs on the proposals, with the exception of Mahwelereng which was given until 14 June as a result of the rescheduling of their meeting.
