Water shortage anticipated warns muni

Polokwane residents are warned of possible water shortages in the city within the next two days.

POLOKWANE – Polokwane residents are warned of possible water shortages in the city within the next two days.

The areas that will be affected include: Polokwane, Seshego and Moletji areas.

Matshidiso Mothapo, a municipal Spokesperson said the municipality received a notice from Lepelle Northern Water that the Olifantspoort plant experienced a raw water shortage over the weekend due to the reduction of water outflow from Flagboshielo Dam by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

“The Flag Boshielo Dam level is less than 33%. As a result the production time at the plant has decreased drastically leading to the expected water shortage to take place within the next two days,” Mothapo said.

Lepelle Northern Water has engaged DWS to uphold the restriction to enable the water situation to return to normal, Mothapo added.

“Residents and members of the public are advised to use water sparingly in order to avoid adverse effects on the reservoir levels,” concludes Mothapo.
