Muni mum as former MM wins court case
William (Willy) Kekana won a court case in the North Gauteng High Court last Friday, after the Mogalakwena Municipality appealed against the court ruling made in April.
MOKOPANE – Kekana told Bosveld: “The order that previously stated that I should be reinstated as the municipal manager (MM) with immediate effect, was again reached on Friday.”
Kekana first took over the seat as municipal manager in 2009 and up until 2013 the Mogalakwena Municipality scooped up numerous awards and received a clean audit report. His contract was renewed in October of 2013, on 3 November 2014 he was forcefully removed from the premises and during these heated protests Kekana was expelled in 2015.
Kekana said: “It has been a long and ongoing court battle for me to rightfully take over the reigns as municipal manager once again and every time I win in court, the municipality appeals against the order. I believe it is their attempt to prolong the matter until my contract expires next year.” He further said: “The municipality is on the road to self-destruction and the community have to speak through their votes on 3 August.”
Kekana was barred by security officers at the municipality while attempting to enter the premises this week.
“I have opened a case of contempt of court and trespassing against the Acting Municipal manger, Patricia Nake,” Kekana told Bosveld on Tuesday. Mayor Parks Sebatjane said at this stage, they do not want to comment.
