DA welcomes 240 from ANC
Lefadi Piet Magoro, a man who served in the ranks of the ANC for 30 years shocked fellow comrades in Mentz village near Moria when he joined the DA recently and became a councillor candidate elect.
LIMPOPO – Magoro, popularly known as Comrade Battalion, joined the ANC in 1984 and worked closely with the likes of Peter Mokaba, Castro Pilusa and Tshepo Mamabolo.
He says ANC leaders advised him to further his studies after high school as he was still young and in the ranks of the youth league.
“I studied at the Napuno College of Education and obtained a diploma in teaching. When I came back, new faces in the movement started side-lining me.
“I resigned from the ruling party in July this year due to greedy comrades who personalise the organisation for their own benefit.”
“Comrades can connive and pull you down if you are close to the seniors. They also use you as a ladder to climb to top positions.
“When my move to the DA went public, a few of my ANC comrades contacted me to ask if it were true because they were in disbelief,” said Magoro.
Along with Magoro, 240 other ANC members in the Mentz joined the DA.
Welcoming the new members, DA Provincial Chairperson, Bodlani Langa said Magoro and the others made the right choice by joining the official opposition.
“It is a very good move because they did not join the party in red. People in red were in the ANC and because of them squandering taxpayers’ money, services are not being delivered,” he said.
“We are councillor candidates for ward 28 and we need humble people to lead the community. We don’t need arrogant councillors.
“Residents in your ward should have your telephone number.
“If you do not perform your duties, you will be replaced. We are 22 years into democracy but so many people have to contend with poor service delivery.
“Social grants can’t change lives; people need jobs. People need to vote on 3 August to see change,” said Langa.
DA Limpopo Leader, Jacques Smalle announced the DA welcomed the new members with open arms. “In the DA, we are family,” said Smalle.
Provincial Spokesperson for the ANC, Aluwani Netsianda said the ANC will have a response for the DA’s statement after they receive the full list of the ANC members who jumped ship.
