Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba on Monday successfully led an operation which resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old man allegedly targeting and selling dagga to learners of Maimane High School outside Lebowakgomo.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the accused was expected to appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in and possession of dagga.
“The operation forms part of the strategies on the effective implementation of the school safety programme across Limpopo and has yielded good results. The operation was led by Ledwaba joined by the Provincial Head of Crime Prevention Machuene Mokgonyana and members of the Crime Intelligence Unit and Crime Prevention Unit. Ledwaba received information days back that learners at Maimane High School at Hwelereng Village outside Lebowakgomo are always intoxicated, violent and not controllable especially after breaks,” Ngoepe said.
This information led to Ledwaba initiating the operation in which a large amount of dagga was found in packets and boxes inside the suspect’s RDP house. Ledwaba afterwards addressed learners at the school about the dangers of dagga and drugs and criminal activities in general.
Ledwaba thanked community members and the Department of Education who exposed the dirty dealings of the suspect. He encouraged Limpopo citizens to continue providing valuable information to the Police in the fight against crime.
Ngoepe could not provide the estimated value of the confiscated dagga.
