After Mohamed Ekram Dada became the owner of Capricorn Motors BP in 2014, the service station in Thabo Mbeki Street has grown from strength to strength and today gainfully employs 22 people where there were once only eight employees.
Dada explains that he and his team fixed the canopies, beefed up the 24-hour convenience store with an in-house kitchen and added a 50 parts per minute (PPM) diesel pump. “I am very proud of the fact that we sell diesel at a very affordable R12,52 per litre,” he says.
“I have to thank my father, Iqbal Dada, my mother, Kulsam, and my wife, Fatima for their unwavering support. I also want to thank my loyal repeat customers and personnel, especially my two managers, Joan du Preez and Rita Jones, and three supervisors, Khutso Mpyane, Samuel Seperu and George Mashimbye.”
Dada also thanked his sister, Adila Cassim, who is also Capricorn Motors BP’s accountant, for her contribution to the success of the business.
Capricorn Motors BP is also open to customers opening accounts, provided that a deposit is paid beforehand. The service station also has a generator that can keep the excellent service going when there is a power cut or load shedding in the area.
Situated just around the corner of the medical centre and private hospital in Burger Street, the Capricorn Motors BP convenience store is ideally placed for people who want to stop for fuel or a quick bite to eat.
The kitchen is open from 07:00 to 21:00, but packaged meals are available during all hours of the day or night. The menu offers fish and chips, pap, chicken pieces, Russians, toasted sandwiches, beef and chicken stew, chicken livers and chicken feet.
The store stocks necessities like toiletries, nappies, baby food, and even baby formula, catering for times of need when all other shops are closed. Customers can also buy dog food as well as wood and charcoal briquettes here.
“Of course we also sell all kinds of sweets and chips and we stock Coca-Cola, Stoney, Sprite and Fanta buddies at R6 each and 440 ml cans at R8,” Dada says.
To add to the complete convenience package, Capricorn Motors BP also sells airtime for all cell phone networks as well as prepaid electricity for Polokwane Municipality, Eskom and Unipin. There are also two ATMs on site.
