The pulse that drives the city
THABO Sebashe believes his success is the result of hard work and his humble demeanor.
POLOKWANE – The 31-year-old from Namakgale, Phalaborwa studied audio-visual production management at the University of Johannesburg and he hosts The City Drive on Energy FM every Monday to Friday, 15:00 – 18:00. Thabo is a young man with talent and a personality perfect for radio. He says he did not know what career path to follow when he was younger but he is pleased with the one he finally chose.
“I was confused. I was academically gifted but I also had a passion for people. I enjoyed interacting with them,” Thabo says.
He says he is an extrovert and that led to him entering the world of radio.
“I grew up spending more time listening to the radio than I did watching TV.
“As I got older, I realised I could utilise my passion and that’s when I decided to become a radio DJ. Since I started, I’ve never wanted to be anything else,” he continues. According to Thabo, his father played a pivotal role in shaping the man he is today. He says his father is a humble and God-fearing man who motivated him from an early age. He further says working for Energy FM has equipped him with skills and knowledge that he will use for the rest of his career. “Working for Energy FM has helped me develop my understanding of the technical aspects of radio. I’ve managed to hone my skills and learn the tricks of the trade and I am grateful to my mentors for having so much faith in me,” Thabo said.
His dream is to be the number one DJ nationally and he says he hopes it will become a reality soon.
A God-fearing man just like his father, Thabo says he is all grateful to God for protecting him and allowing him to pursue his dreams. “I’m grateful to God for everything He has done for me and for keeping me from getting involved in crime and substance abuse.
“I believe that if I achieved fame at an earlier stage, it would have ended my career and I wouldn’t be able to find a job in the industry ever again.
“Thanks to Him, I became a better DJ but I remain humble all the way,” he concludes.
