Limpopo media man Francois Aucamp passes away
Francois Aucamp (74) died at Mediclinic Tzaneen on Saturday 17 September, after a short illness.
TZANEEN – Known for his no holds barred articles he steered the Bulletin newspaper and its staff through some very choppy waters. When he arrived in Tzaneen and revived the Bulletin more than a decade ago, he did so with ethics.
Francois had come from the ranks of Afrikaans journalism and had worked for national newspapers in Pretoria. He arrived in Tzaneen unknown but over the years became one of the most prominent figures around town.
He was an extremely fair yet demanding editor and protected his staff from the public when necessary. In return he commanded loyalty, creativity and hard work.
While being a larger than life editor during the day, Francois loved nothing better than to spend his Sundays quietly listening to classical music and smoking a cigarette or twenty. He was a vegetarian and allergic to mushrooms.
His biggest wish was that his legacy continues through the independent Bulletin, a newspaper he had fought so hard for in every aspect.
His funeral will be held at the Dutch Reformed Church in Tzaneen today (Thursday).
