UPDATE: Fatigue likely cause of 3-truck collision on N1 South
According to official reports two people lost their lives in the N1 accident on Tuesday morning.
LIMPOPO – The leading cause of the three-truck collision which claimed two lives on the N1 yesterday morning (Tuesday) is suspected to be fatigue say authorities.
The accident happened on the N1 between Mookgophong and Mokopane at around 02:00 on Tuesday morning. According to official reports two 32-ton trucks collided head-on, the third smaller 3-ton truck collided with the wreckage.
According to Joshua Kwapa, spokesperson for the Limpopo department of transport the two drivers of the first two trucks died on the scene. The three occupants from the smaller truck sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.
“The officer on the scene suspects that the cause of the accident was fatigue,” he added.
Investigations still continue.

LIMPOPO – The N1 road between Mokopane and Mookgophong is open following a three-truck collision at around 02:00 this morning (Tuesday), says the police.
“Three people were confirmed dead on the scene and two injured people were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care says provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.
“The road is currently open. The cause of the accident will form part of a police investigation,” Otto adds.
Although police have reported that the road is open to traffic, several motorists have phoned in to say that the road is still closed and traffic is still being diverted onto R101.

This follows an accident on the N1 between Mokopane and Polokwane on Monday afternoon in which a truck and a bakkie towing a trailer were involved.
According to information six people sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported by private ambulances services to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
