‘If they fail, don’t vote for them’

EFF member takes a swing at ANC at his cousin's funeral

TOHOYANDOU – Member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Shumani Kutama, and cousin of the deceased ANC member, Pfuluwani Gospel Kutama, said if the ANC does not build their fallen comrade an RDP house as promised, then they don’t deserve the people’s vote. He said this at his cousin’s funeral that took place in Khalavha village near Thohoyandou on Saturday.

“THE ANC promised to build an RDP house for their fallen hero, Gospel’s widow. If they fail, don’t vote for them,” said.

The EFF member asked locals to keep an eye on his cousin’s yard, to ensure the ANC fulfills its promise.

Vhembe ANC Regional Secretary, Khathu Netshifhefhe said Kutama’s RDP house was approved and they now await construction to start.

“The allegations that the ANC doesn’t care for its comrade is false. Gospel has been a member of the ANC since 1994 and the organisation paid for his studies at the Vhembe FET College to study vocational work. He did not pass but remained in the organisation as he was included in our ward committees and also in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP),” he explained.

The 43-year-old Kutama died after a long illness. According to Netshifhefhe, Kutama was also on the list of PR councillors, but educational and local government experience and gender equity compromised his position and he was excluded from the committee.

“When he fell ill, we put him on the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) programme and he received food parcels. We used to visit him in hospital and at home. This is not the end of the ANC’s relation with the Kutama family. If his family needs something from the office of the ANC, they are welcome to talk to us,” Netshifhefhe concluded.
