R24 000 to the Mankweng based Come Together Consortium in Polokwane.
Makro in Polokwane has been involved with Come Together Consortium for three years after they heard how the organisation helps children and families in need.
Come Together the consortium is an umbrella body for 33 drop-in centres in Capricorn district. They provide capacity building and training to volunteers on how to run the centres. They distribute food-parcels to the centres where the volunteers cook the food for orphans and needy, vulnerable children.
Abram Maila, Pastor and Director of Come Together Consortium said Makro’s open heart has been a blessing to the organisation.
Makro Polokwane opened their doors in 2011. Makro is keenly aware of the need for large corporates to contribute generously to the upliftment and care of the broader South African society. They have adopted a strict policy to focus their corporate social investment CSI activities primarily on education, feeding schemes and HIV/Aids.
A total of 19 Makro stores trade in South Africa, bringing convenience and affordability to local households and businesses. Makro offers food, the latest electronics, houseware, camping and outdoor equipment and even liquor. With the e-commerce addition to Makro’s offering, customers can now enjoy deals and value-added services across a broader reach of locations.
Makro has evolved in the retail space from a stalwart warehouse chain to now being able to offer customers a convenient online shopping hub. The chain is committed to delivering on a promise of contributing at least 1% of profit after tax to deserving causes.
Mamorwadi Makaba, Marketing Manager at Makro Polokwane during the handover said: “It is a privilege to give something back to our community, especially when the growth and well-being of children is involved.”
