Sun Meropa embraces education enrichment in Lim

Khaiso High School in Seshego and Mothimako Secondary School between Ga-Mothiba and Makotopong village are the first of 10 schools set to benefit from Sun Meropa and Sun International group's development of hospitality classes on 18 and 20 October.

POLOKWANE – The renovation of the hospitality classes is aligned with Sun International’s approach in Creating Shared Value, which is a well-researched and globally applied model that focuses on aligning business needs with society’s needs. Whereby a shared value for all and genuine sustainable community development is created.

This renovation programme is focused on upgrading hospitality classrooms at schools situated in disadvantaged communities. In turn, this programme will then equip learners in pursuing further studies and careers in the hospitality sector.

As part of Sun International’s Earthglow programme, both these schools’ classes embrace environmentally friendly fittings such as solar geysers, green roof and environmentally friendly appliances.

Both these projects were completed in a matter of six months.

The project at Khaiso High School cost R396 000 for renovations, refurbishments and furnishings that included solar geysers, tiling, electric wiring, painting, fitting of a cooker hood and blinds. Safety and security equipment were also installed.

The project at Mothimako Secondary School cost R403 000 for renovations, refurbishments and furnishings that included the same equipment as at Khaiso along with plumbing and sewerage systems. The class was further fitted with electric appliances and safety and security equipment. Along with all these fixtures, Mothimako Secondary School was also fitted with a model of a real restaurant for practical learning purposes together with two bathrooms.

Sun Meropa, being no stranger to development and enhancement of education in its community, has since its existence spent more than R3,2 million on educational projects. Even Sun Meropa’s personnel have worked countless hours on the development and enhancement of this valued and most treasured sector of society by getting to schools and community education centres.

Sun International is aiming to benefit in the region of a 100 schools in its vicinity of operation. Of these schools ten are allocated to Sun Meropa for Limpopo. Khaiso High and Mothimako Secondary are such schools.
