Robbery victims pushed into flooding river

The Giyani police assisted by community members have launched a massive search for the body one of two victims who were robbed and pushed into a river outside Maswanganyi Village on Friday afternoon.

LIMPOPO – According to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo it is allegedly the victim was pushed into a flooding river by two unknown robbers after he and his friend were robbed of R310.

The search comprises the Search and Rescue unit and divers from Thohoyandou, the K9 unit,  local police and community member said Mojapelo .

“The deceased Tebogo Ngonyama (19) and his friend Desmond Fantini (28) both from Mapuve were on the way home when two suspects confronted them and demanded money at gunpoint,” explained Majapelo.

“According to information, the two victims were then escorted at gun point towards the flooding Ritavi River and forced to swim across… Fantini managed to swim across whereas Ngonyama allegedly failed and is presumed  to have drowned.”

The police also launched a manhunt for the two suspects he said.

We are appealing to our communities in the area to refrain from taking the law into their own hands but continue to work with us to find the missing victim and to also assist in tracking down these merciless criminals, concluded Mojapelo.
