POLOKWANE – Following an accident on Thabo Mbeki and Church Street on Friday afternoon, one of Review’s journalists, Vella Nyoni, happened to have been traveling in the vicinity and saw the accident occur. What follows is her first hand account.

“Accidents are an inevitable part of life and most of us will experience them at some point or other in our lives. I do understand that sometimes these things cannot be avoided or stopped but when do we draw the line between reckless driving and ‘things that are bound to happen’. On Friday, as I was walking home from work, I heard a loud screech on the corner of Thabo Mbeki and Church Street and I was wondering where the noise is coming from. I saw a bakkie crash right into a taxi loaded with passengers. I was not sure who was at fault. I saw a child in the front seat and another person was at the back of the bakkie, standing up. Although no one was injured, there was a huge possibility that people could have died due to someone’s inability to stick to the rules of the road. We have all seen how quickly life can be taken from us and yet you have people that want to play Russian Roulette with their lives and those of others. I urge everyone to drive safely because I don’t think being late or being in a hurry to get somewhere is more important than human life.”
