Poets let their words do the work

The final round of the Poetry United competition was held on Monday, in association with Review, and the Polokwane Tourism Association, at Ocean Basket restaurant in the Mall of the North.

POLOKWANE – This poetry competition not only gives young and upcoming poets the opportunity to enter their work, but also to portray it in a drama-like performance in front of an audience.

Some of the finalists, especially from the primary and high school categories, did their level best not show their nervousness in front of the judges and the audience, not to mention the patrons dining out for the evening at Ocean Basket.

In the primary division, finalists and siblings, Mmathapelo and Lesedi Maja, were pitted against one another, however it was Lesedi who emerged the winner in this division.

The high school category belonged to the talented young Mmamoraka Mogano.

Mmamoraka Mogano held the audience and judges enthralled with her poetry performance and went on to win the high school category of the final round of Poetry United on Monday evening in Polokwane.

In second place was Molatelo Semetla.

The vibrant performance by Johanna Mmola, which secured her a first place in the semi-final round, once again paid dividends in this final round on Monday evening as she convincingly won this category.

Second place went to Angello Tshoga.
