POLOKWANE – “Some 2,3 km 90 mm and 110 mm pipes have already been laid in Annadale as replacement for asbestos cement pipes,” Polokwane Municipality Director for Engineering Services, Nditsheni Sikhauli
Approximately 24 225 m of asbestos cement pipes must be replaced in Annadale and for this financial year R61,26 million has been budgeted for the replacement.
The physical progress is estimated at 5% thus far.
Sikhauli said so far, the physical progress for the 2016/17 financial year, for which R319, 9 million has been budgeted in the CBD, has been estimated at 8% by 30 March this year.
The contractor is exposing the existing services and had cracked almost 2,3 km of high-definition polyethylene pipes (HDPE).
The Polokwane waste water treatment plant, for which R80 million is budgeted this financial year, stands at 70% and construction is in progress.
The contractor is behind schedule, according to Sikhauli, but he will catch up.
Various electrification projects and upgrades of substations are in progress or in the process of being planned.
Around 38 CCTV cameras in and around the CBD and other critical areas were repaired and upgraded by 30 March, in the interest of residents’ safety and security.
According to Sikhauli the launch date for the Leeto la Polokwane project (the old rapid bus transport project) has been postponed to October 2018. So far 2,8 km of 8 km trunk road has been completed so far, as well as 18,4 km trunk extensions and 26,5 km feeder routes of Phase 1 A.
Altogether 50 bays at bus stops have been completed, as well as one prototype bus stop in Seshego. The design of two stations and the depot is being finalised for construction in 2017/18 and the control centre is under construction.
