POLOKWANE – With drugs becoming a more prominent problem in our community among the youth, it is important for parents to know the dangers surrounding drugs and their concealment.
One of the more well known drugs in the city is CAT. Also knows as Wannabe-Speed or Jeff, it is fast growing in popularity, says Amanda van Staden of the SA National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca).
Amanda spoke to Review about the dangers of CAT, saying it is becoming a real issue on the streets of Polokwane, especially among school children.
According to Amanda, CAT users gain a state of relaxed alertness, with some computer programmers and students use it to enhance their productivity.
“Among heavy users, it can mean one to four days without sleep, with some going into deep depression and sleep-deprivation psychosis,” she explained.
With this is mind, Review took to the streets to ask a drug user to demonstrate what the drug looks like and how it is packaged.
