God-fearing and energetic, Ouma Kate will be remembered
Ouma Kate Williams (91) passed away on 4 July after a short illness.
POLOKWANE – A Lotus flower in a pool of life, is how Ouma Kate Williams (91), will be remembered by her friends and family.
This legendary woman, whose name derived from ‘Catherine’, a name meaning ‘pure’, was pure of heart and lifestyle.
She died on Tuesday, 4 July after a short illness.
“Everyone in the community looked up to her. She was a true inspiration and example to everyone. Everyone respected her,” says her son, Joey.
“She was a God-fearing and energetic woman. She was kissed with genius and a great sense of humour.”
Joey explains that after Kate’s husband, Ben, died in 1975, she raised him and his seven siblings as a single parent.
“We were raised with high morals and values in life. She held her children, grandchildren and great grand children together as the head of her family as long as she could. Her strength and her wisdom as a single woman have steered her children to meaningful adults.”
She worked at Pietersburg Monumente werke until she was 70 years old.
Joey remember how she will sit on the stoep and everyone, young and old, will greet her. “Later on she was not able to see that good, but she will recognize the voices.”
Her congregation and community at large will remember her as an inspiration to humanity. She was big hearted and respected by everyone. Her neatness and dress-code, as an old granny, was commendable and admired by young and old.
“We will miss her calmness and warmth. She was strict, but warm and her right were her right and her wrong were her wrong. She was never a backstabber. She believed that no matter how short a time you are visiting, you need to have a cup of tea and if you are in her home over lunch time, you will get a plate of food. We miss her, her place is empty.”
She is survived by her two sons (three sons passed on), three daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Ouma Kate will be laid to rest on Sunday, 9 July from the Uniting Reformed Church in South Africa in Westenburg, from 08:00.
