The Valedictory Parade is one of CHS’s oldest traditions and its purpose is to bid the matrics farewell and honour alumni who have passed away.
A warm welcome by the programme director, Mr Zifundiswa Maphosa was extended to special guests including the South African (SA) Army Band Limpopo, Limpopo Academy of Sports and Mr Director Mothemane, Limpopo Department of Education District Director. Also present were Mr Jacob Tshiwilowilo, CHS School Governing Body (SGB) Chairperson, Mr Lucas Chuene, CHS Principal, Mr Jacobus Duvenhage, School Management Team (SMT), Mr Leon du Plessis, Estate Manager, Mr Peace Badejo who lead with scripture reading and prayer, SGB members, CHS staff member, Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners, and parents.
The matric class of 2017, guard of honour, school band and SA Army Band Limpopo marched onto the field at intervals and proceedings continued with much pomp and ceremony. Delivering a short speech, Mr Mothemane said CHS has a history of delivering academic, sports and cultural excellence, and the class of 2017 was no exception. “My message to the class of 2017 is to not let others’ opinions drown out your inner voice. Have the courage to follow your hearts and your intuition.” The ceremony ended with the school colours being handed over by outgoing leaders to the new leaders followed by jubilation with singing, dancing and the matrics’ hats being thrown into the air.
