Over 5000 cars have passed through Kranskop toll plaza in 5 hours

The Department of Transport says traffic is likely to increase as the evening progresses

POLOKWANE – According to the department’s spokesperson, Moremi Matome, 5 318 vehicles passed the Kranskop toll plaza on the N1 from Gauteng to Limpopo.

“This number was calculated between 10:00 and 15:00 this afternoon,” he said.

Matome says traffic is likely to increase but that traffic officials have been deployed all over Limpopo to monitor traffic.

“Operations at the Beitbridge Border post are running smoothly and it will be open 24 hours a day,” he added.

Matome says motorists are encouraged to stay within the speed limit saying that those that transgress will be arrested.

This comes after a 31-year-old man was arrested this afternoon for driving at 171km/h on the N1S near Ysterburg. He is being detained at the Polokwane Police Station.

“Our unmarked vehicles are patrolling all over the province and those caught speeding will spend the night in jail,” he warned.

Motorists have also been cautioned against bribing officers and a no nonsense approach will be taken against those who do.
