POLOKWANE – For some children it might be a big adjustment when someone else has to drop them off at school, but Thendo Ramovha, a learner transporter and owner of Thendo Transport and Tours, has some advice on how to help your children adjust.
“Most children understand their parents cannot drop them off at school but for those who have to adjust to this new routine for the first time, it is important to explain the situation to them. One thing you can do is to assure them that you will still see them every day after school when you get home. You can explain to them they will now be travelling with a school aunt or uncle who will also take care of them. This is why it is so important to trust the person who will transport your children so you can be assured they will be safe. If you doubt the person transporting them, the children might sense it and be reluctant to go with them.
“Most of the children I transport don’t cry when I take them to school because they have adjusted and look forward to talking to their friends who also use the transport before school. The first few weeks are usually the most difficult for the children as they still need to adjust to the situation. I understand this adjustment might just be as difficult on the parent as it is on the child but you can trust us to treat your children as our own. We know the struggles you face as we also have children of our own which is why we always do our best to keep your children at ease when they make use of our transport,” he said.
