The Renewed South Africa Party (RSA.P) in Limpopo established two new circles, generally referred to as branches, in the Blouberg area this past weekend which is in line with party policy to work for rural upliftment and poverty eradication.
Upon the establishment of the circles in Schoongezicht B and Old Longside, management was elected, according to RSA.P interim national leader Cornelis Roelofse in a media statement. In his address he stressed the need for a confederal form of government to decentralise power to regional structures. “The current constitutional dispensation and the consequent form of government is expensive. The party is campaigning for constitutional changes that will see leaner government, this meaning a smaller cabinet of about 10 to 12 portfolios and doing away with provincial governments. The political arm of local government should also be scrapped and the technical and service delivery components should be placed in the hands of semi-autonomous regional governments elected on a constituency basis. There will be about 30 to 35 such regions. This will bring governance that is able to implement regional policies, closer to the people.”
Roelofse further stressed the need for peace and reconciliation. He said that there were political leaders stirring up racial hatred while South Africa needed people working for peace.
He said “it is time not to proclaim that we are tolerant but to live tolerance. It is a time not to speak of reconciliation but to love our neighbours, not of an injury to one being an injury to all, but to realise and live as people sharing common boundaries. It is a time to build and not to break. It is a time for books (knowledge) and spades (hard work). Let RSA.P be a catalyst of reconciliation and neighbourliness. We are called to make a difference.”
