Four people seriously injured during taxi unrest outside Groblesdal

Two Toyota Conquests and a Toyota Quantum were burnt and four people were severely assaulted and rushed to hospital.

LIMPOPO – Police in Hlogotlou are investigating three counts of malicious damage to property and four counts of assault with grievous bodily harm, following unrest by two local taxi associations.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mamphaswa Seabi says the incidents took place at Eensaam village, outside Motetema on Monday morning, 22 January.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the two organizations, Nebo Taxi association and Maxi Taxi association are fighting over the route between Vleischboom and Eensaam,” he said.

Leutanent General Neke Ledwaba has condemned these acts of ‘vigilantism’ and assured communities that no stone shall be left un-turned in bringing perpetrators to book.

Police investigations are still underway and no arrests have been made as yet.
