PCS bids longest serving educator farewell

The management of Pietersburg Comprehensive School (PCS) bid farewell to one of its longest serving educators, Khomotjo Salome Raphiri at the school last Friday.
Raphiri, who taught Mathematics and
Science at the school for over a decade, is heading to Mankopane Primary School in Sekhukhune were she has been appointed deputy principal with effect from Monday.
In a brief speech Raphiri extended her gratitude to the management, educators and school governing body for the support they had shown to her during her tenure. “It was a great ten years and I enjoyed every moment. The learners past and present were amazing. We shared a lot together and we learned from each other. I want to thank the former principal, Denise Claassen from whom I learned a lot. She taught me how to teach, she is a perfectionist and a good planner,” Raphiri said.
She also mentioned that she was looking forward to her role at the new school and to implement some of the things she learned at PCS.
“I am going to a rural school and I am excited because I am taking modern education there. I will be teaching Mathematics and Science and I am going to introduce the model C strategy at the school. By so doing, I want to curb this rural-urban migration for education. Most people no longer have faith in rural schools because they are questioning the quality of their education. With my move I want to bring changes at the school and share some of the best education practices with learners and educators at Mankopane,” Raphiri said.
She says some of her fondest memories was seeing learners excelling in the South African Maths Olympiad and drum majorettes which she coached.
Rudi Fick, principal of PCS wished Raphiri well in her new venture and thanked her for making Mathematics and Science fun for their learners. “Learners enjoyed learning under her. She was a hard worker and we also want to thank her for all her input.”
