Police have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects who attacked and robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle between Louis Trichardt and Musina on Monday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the suspects used explosives during the attack to gain access to the vehicle and the safes and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. He added that the vehicle was travelling from Musina when a Toyota bakkie allegedly overtook and started shooting at the armoured vehicle. The driver stopped and made a U-turn in an effort to get away but the occupants of a second vehicle shot at the security vehicle’s tyres forcing the driver to stop, according to Ngoepe.
The rear of the vehicle was blown apart by explosives. One of the security officers was shot and injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
The suspects were travelling in a white Toyota double cab, black Mercedes-Benz ML, a white Mercedes-Benz sedan and another unknown dark blue bakkie.
Anyone with information can contact investigating officer Richard Boshomane on 079 894 5501 or report to the nearest Police station.
