Tariff meeting sees poor attendance
Poor attendance of the public at the municipality's meeting regarding increase of tariffs are a great concern for DA Councillor, Yolandé Coetzee.
MOKOPANE – The Mogalakwena Municipality had a consultation meeting with the residents of Mokopane regarding the Municipal Tariff increases on Monday in the Mayors Parlour. According to Yolandé Coetzee, ward Councillor of Mogalakwena Municipality, this meeting was attended very poorly by the public.
“It was disappointing to see the interest shown towards these important meetings. As the Municipal structures act of 2003 the Mogalakwena Municipality is required to have consultative meetings to get inputs from the public.”

Coetzee said the proposed tariff increases are 8.5% for water, 6% for basic services and 7.32% for electricity as per NERSA prescription.
“Residents have the opportunity to inspect these tariff increases at John Kotlolo, property tax clerk’s office no 6, or on the Municipal website. The public are urged to submit any concern, comments or questions before 22 March.”
Coetzee said is it important that the community become more involved in these proceedings, so that all are more aware of doings within the Municipality, as it affects the residents directly
