Local businessman revives the Polokwane Show

After last year’s absence The Polokwane Show is back this year, with a bang. The Polokwane Show and Exhibition will take place at the Polokwane Showgrounds from Monday, 12 March until Saturday, 17 March.

POLOKWANE –  The Polokwane Show and Exhibition was always an annual event which attracted large numbers of individuals with the performances, variety of stalls and rides fit for the entire family. Although the Polokwane Show failed to take place in 2017, a local resident Dan Monareng, has decided to take the initiative to host this years’ Polokwane Show and Exhibition. “I’ve been doing exhibition stalls for the government for quite some time and also assisted others in building stalls. When I noticed that there wasn’t one in 2017, I contacted the Polokwane Municipality. I saw the opportunity to take over the show and started to plan,” he explained.

The businessman who also holds an honors degree in philosophy, put in a few enquiries with regards to the name registration, upon which he found out that the Polokwane Show and Exhibition had not yet been registered and further proceeded in securing the name. “I started to do some research into what people want at the show and what interests them. I went to the Municipality who fully supported my idea after I suggested a few ideas and a date. This year I started to advertise the event. I decided to broaden the net and add new exhibitors. There will also be a helicopter which will offer people a five minute ride over the city. There will not be a lot of the same exhibitors as there will be more of a variety in terms of exhibitors,” he explained.

He further explained that the show will also cater for learners from Monday to Thursday, by bringing forth demonstrations from the South African Police Service, Eskom and EMS among others. “There will be different universities that will assist learners in their future decisions. On the Friday and Saturday families will be able to visit us. This does not mean that families are not welcome during the week, they are,” he added.

Although he has outlined the implementation of the event, he also explained that this venture is also a learning curve for him. “I paid a visit to the Rand Easter Show to learn what to do. I decided to make the food more affordable. There will be a fun fair as well and the elderly will pay less. We expect between 25 000 and 30 000 people during the whole show,” he added.

One of the things to look forward to is a modelling show.

This fashionable event will take place on Saturday, 17 March between 14:00 and 15:00. Tickets are R350 per person plus R100 gate entry.

Dress code is evening wear and make-up should be done according to age. On the day of the competition, contestants are required to introduce themselves to the public. Questions may be asked, say your name, surname and age.

The categories are: Miss 16 – 50 years, Mrs 18-50 years.
