Four suspects, one of whom is a Police officer and another an employee of G4S Cash Solutions, were sentenced to a collective 76 years imprisonment by the Limpopo High Court on Friday after they were found guilty of robbing a cash depot in Marble Hall in December 2015.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke indicated that Moshe Moses Mogashane (43), Ndwamato Jeffery Maphaki (53), Papiki David Komane (33), former Police constable at Marble Hall Police Station and Kgabo Elias Mpheroane (39), a former employee of G4S in the same town stormed into a G4S depot in Marble Hall and threatened staff and security before fleeing the scene with approximately R11 million on 9 December 2015. The vehicle used by the suspects was later spotted by Police and a high speed chase ensued until Mogashane and Maphaki were cornered and arrested in Pretoria. They were found with almost R1 million in their possession. Further investigation led the Hawks to Komane and Mpheroane.
Mogashane and Ndwamato were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each while Komane and Mpheroane each received 18 years behind bars.
Provincial Head of the Hawks Thobeka Jozi welcomed the hefty sentences imposed by the court and thanked all role players in the investigation. “We would like to thank the investigation team as well as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for working tirelessly and earnestly to ensure that these criminals are locked away for a very long time. We hope these sentences will serve as a deterrent to criminals and also as a warning that their days are numbered,” she said.
