Lingyun Tang (41), a local businessperson trading at China City will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court again in June on a charge of corruption after he allegedly tried to bribe a Department of Labour official on Saturday.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke indicated that Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday granted Tang R2 000 bail and warned him to appear again on 7 June.
Tang was arrested on Saturday after allegedly trying to bribe an official from the Department of Labour who was reportedly conducting an inspection at the shop owned by Tang.
Provincial Spokesperson of the department Lerato Makomene indicated that Tang was found to be in contravention of the wholesale and retail sector of the Labour Act for allegedly paying his employees less than minimum wage and a compliance order was subsequently issued.
Maluleke said instead of complying Tang allegedly approached the inspector and offered a R3 000 bribe in order to falsify a compliance report. The official alerted the Hawks who swiftly conducted an entrapment operation which resulted in Tang’s arrest.
