Members of the Limpopo branch of the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (Bwasa) took the opportunity to network with Sonto Ndlovu, recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) at a venue in the city.
Mmabogoshi Msiza, Bwasa Limpopo Chairperson welcomed the female dominated audience and said that tourism is one of the major economic drivers of the province and that women are changing the culture of tourism in Limpopo. “Women offers a very value added management style and are there to create and be part of sustainable economies,” Msiza said and alluded to the fact that Bwasa is a platform where women could get connected in order to enhance their professional careers.
Ndlovu also took the stage and was applauded by guests for being the first woman to be appointed as Chief Executive Officer of LTA. Ndlovu said that the province needs a thriving domestic tourism industry and explained that, when the international economy is affected by challenges, the local tourism industry sustains business. “We must remember that Limpopo is the country’s second most popular destination for international visitors who are used to the highest standards and because I am convinced that our women are the most innovative and resourceful people, I have no doubt that we can make it,” she said.
Ndlovu advised the women in business to take advantage of the digital revolution. “Communication is important in the tourism industry and you must ensure that your message gets through,” she said and referred to the African proverb: “If the lion does not tell his story, only the hunter’s story will be told”.
In conclusion, she urged the women to become Limpopo tourism ambassadors.
Long after the formal programme ended, some guests remained to enjoy the entertainment provided by the Muzo Brothers and local singer Bubu and her band.
