Police express disgust following rape of 93-year-old woman near Burgersfort

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba described the crime as "disturbing".

LIMPOPO – Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba, has expressed disappointment and disgust following the rape of a 93-year-old woman in Leboweng outside Burgersfort.

Ledwaba says police will not rest until the suspects are brought to book and justice is prevailed.

As a result, police in Leboweng, outside Burgersfort, have launched a manhunt for the suspects involved.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the victim was awaken by an unknown number of suspects on 4 June after they forcefully entered her house through a window.

“The suspects demanded money from her and then raped her before fleeing the scene with cash,” he said.

Ledwaba issued a stern warning to would-be rapists who victimise vulnerable individuals, especially women and children, that their days are numbered. “It is upon everyone to protect our elders to avoid such disturbing incidents to happen,” he said.
