POLOKWANE – Mothergoose Creché visited Bakone Malapa Northern Sotho Open-Air Museum where the children got an opportunity to learn more about the Northern Sotho clan, the Northern Ndebele, Northern Sotho and Shangaanon cultures. The visit took place on Thursday 27 September, just 9km South of Polokwane CBD on the Chuenespoort/Burgersfort road.
As part of celebrating Heritage month, one of the tour guides explained different traditional sites and items at the museum, such as the traditional round thatched house with the floor made from cow dung, different traditional clothing, traditional ways of cooking, how to make fire in a traditional way, the king’s compound and traditional games etc.

One of the school teachers at Mothergoose, Esnath Hove told Review that the most exciting thing about the trip/visit is that the kids enjoyed participating in all different cultural activities they didn’t know before.

“They entered the huts to experience how it looks and feels on the inside, wore traditional clothes, held the hunting items people used in the olden days, and they were also taken back to traditional times that their grandparents experienced. They had lots of fun and that’s what matters, when you see the kids having fun and smiles on their faces,” Esnath concluded.
