[TAKE NOTE] Nupsaw to march against the ‘exploitation of health workers’

POLOKWANE – During the media briefing that took place on 9 October, Solly Malema, the Nupsaw National Organizer explained that the march is a result of the exploitation experienced by community health workers. He further said that Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners are exploited and that they need to be integrated into Basic Education to allow them to get the same benefits that public servants receive. “Remember, the ECD sector is the foundation of education and we fail to understand why they cannot be recognized by government. We are going to do everything in our power to collapse the entire ECD sector so that the parents can also intervene,” he said.

Makhonya Nyathi, Limpopo’s NPO/NGO Coalition chairperson added that they have made attempts to sit down with the MEC of Health, Phophi Ramathuba for discussions but their attempts have proved fruitless. ” I think everybody is mindful that the Limpopo Department of Health has collapsed. We have an incompetent MEC who normally makes noise through the media and we have been challenging her to come around the table so that we can sort out the matter because we have hard evidence but she is so evasive,” he said.

Serope Elias Mathuthu, the Saftu Provincial co-convener pledged unwavering support to Nupsaw in their protest march. “The state of public service in the country warrants action and action will not come in the form of rejoicing with what the powers that be are doing treating society.We are calling upon all members of society to join us because it affects all of us,” he said.

The marchers will gather at the SABC Park at 09:00 and move towards the Department of Health in College Ave where they will hand over their first memorandum. From there they march down Hans van Rensburg Street to the PSiRA offices and then make their way to the Office of the Premier.
