POLOKWANE – MEC Makoma Makhurupetje has condemned gang violence in Flora Park and has offered her condolences to the family of Thoriso Themane.

Themane’s body was found dumped on Erasmus and Cestrum Avenue in Flora Park, Polokwane after being bludgeoned to death by a group of learners from a local school.

“We are highly disturbed by this gruesome murder of an upcoming musician. This calls on us as parents, government and the community to strengthen school safety measures. School violence in any form cannot be accepted. This is why I seriously condemn what has happened in the strongest terms, as violence of this nature has all the potential to disrupt the culture of learning and teaching in our schools,” said MEC Makhurupetje.

She added that she trusts police will leave no stone unturned until justice prevails.

Meanwhile, the father of a teen who bragged about being untouchable after being implicated in Themane’s alleged murder said his son was mistaken for thinking he was above the law.

However, the father, a retired warrant officer, who cannot be named to protect the minor, said he was wrong for saying that, adding that he “confessed” to taking part in Themane’s assault and kicking him “several times”.
