Polokwane Municipality warns jobs seekers about job interview scam
This scam involves an SMS invite to interview for an Admin clerk post at the Polokwane Municipality.

POLOKWANE – In a statement issued by Communications and Marketing, municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala warns job seekers about a recent job scam alert whereby individuals, pretending to be officials working in the municipal Human Resource division, invite victims to a job interview.
Selala explains how the scammers operate.
The scammers who identify themselves as Maphanga and Molapo send SMS invites to the potential victims whereby they invite them to job interviews that are, according to the recent scam, set to take place at the municipal offices. They then request their potential victims to call them back from their cellphones on the number 065 506 2259. The potential victim is also required to pay a fee in advance.
“The municipality confirms that there are currently no interviews scheduled for admin clerks and that there are no officials by the names of Maphanga and Molapo within our Human Resources Unit.”
He added that the municipality does not use SMSs to invite candidates for interviews; the municipality does not request interview candidates to pay any monies to any individual in any way whatsoever in in exchange for job placement; and further urges the public to be vigilant and not accept any job offer they did not apply for or never conducted an interview for.
“The public are urged to ignore such messages and to alert the authorities about any suspicious activities related to municipal vacancies.”
The matter has been referred to our community safety section to follow up with the police, he concludes.
Sould there be any queries the public can contact the HR department at 015 290 2116 to verify the authenticity of interviews.Alternatively they can also contact the Polokwane Municipality’s Community Safety unit at 015 290 2457.
