Premier Stan Mathabatha, Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (Ledet) MEC Thabo Mokone, Waterberg District Mayor Morris Mataboge and Lephalale Mayor Jack Maeko are anticipated to get their hands dirty as they officially launch the provincial Good Green Deeds programme at Marapong Sport Fields in Lephalale today (Thursday).
Information made available by Premier’s spokesperson Kenny Mathivha highlighted the purpose of the programme as a call to residents to take up the responsibility of ensuring that their environment is clean, green and habitable. Poor waste management poses health and environmental risks, Mathivha said and added that everyone can do something to attain clean living spaces. He further stated that this was a clarion call to all sectors in the society to do their part to contribute to Good Green Deeds.

Ledet MEC Thabo Mokone is expected to get his hands dirty when the provincial government launches Good Green Deeds programme.

“Where there is litter, society is urged to work together to clear litter and rubble that threatens our efforts to build a healthy country. It encourages communities to take responsibility for their waste, discourage litter and encourage litter collection as a means of keeping communities clean and healthy. It also encourages citizens to participate in a river clean-up,” Mathivha explained.
It was learnt that the programme was recently launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa with the objective of mobilising all sectors in the country to become more environmentally conscious. It was further reported that the programme sought to promote behavioural change towards littering, illegal dumping and waste in general.
Mathivha highlighted that the provincial programme was a public private partnership working together in ensuring a clean environment. He said the delegation would be divided into four groups to clean up Thulare Park, Marapong cemetery and Extension 4 Marapong and concluded by saying activities are set to be carried out from as early as 08:30.
