28 years for Dennilton double murder accused

The management of the police in Limpopo have welcomed the conviction and sentencing of 37-year old, Clement Mashego for the murder of his girlfriend, who was a traffic officer, and her mother in Dennilton in 2017.

POLOKWANE – The management of the police in Limpopo have welcomed the conviction and sentencing of 37-year old, Clement Mashego for the murder of his girlfriend, who was a traffic officer, and her mother in Dennilton in 2017. Mashego has been sentenced to an effective 28 years in prison.

On 27 August 2017, Mashego arrived at the home of his girlfriend, Kotelo Tshepi in the Malaeneng Section around Ntwane Village and confronted both Tshepi and her 62-year-old mother, Makitla Chileki before shooting them and fleeing the scene. Kotelo was employed at the Ellias Motswaledi Municipality in Groblersdal.

He was tracked down and arrested by police and during the arrest, police recovered the murder weapon, which, through preliminary investigations, was found to have been stolen from Mashego’s friend’s safe.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the case was assigned to detective Sergeant Pex Thobejane, from the Motetema Police Station who led to ensuring that Mashego was kept in custody until his conviction

The Polokwane High Court, on Friday, 5 July 2019, handed down the following sentence:

– Count 1: Theft of firearm – Five years
– Count 2: Murder – 23 years
– Count 3: Murder -23 years
– Count 4: Unlawful possession of a firearm – Five years
– Count 5 : Unlawful possession of ammunition – One year

Ngoepe added that the sentences for count three, four and five will run concurrently with count one.

Mashego was sentenced to a total of 28 years’ imprisonment.
