With climate change having a negative impact on food production, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has budgeted R92, 2 million to provide agricultural support services to farmers to ensure a sustainable management of agricultural resources.
This was highlighted by MEC Nandi Ndalane when tabling her office’s budget in Lebowakgomo on Friday. She emphasised that the allocation covered services that include agricultural engineering, natural resource management, land use management services, disaster risk management and spatial information services. She explained that the farmer support and development programme was allocated R1,190 billion for projects ranging from agricultural infrastructure to equipment for primary and secondary production activities.
Ndalane indicated that R63,7 million was budgeted for veterinary services, R62,3 million for research and technology development, R29,6 million for agricultural economics services, R151,4 million for structural agriculture training, R9,1 million for rural development and R402,3 million for administration purposes.
