The Speaker of the Provincial Legislature, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has assured residents that the house would hold the Executive Council (Exco) accountable to ensure that services are delivered to the people.
She made the statement when delivering the Provincial Legislature’s budget vote speech in Lebowakgomo on Friday. Lerule-Ramakhanya indicated that the Legislature’s duty was to ensure that the people of Limpopo receive quality services from their government and that her office would work with the Exco to ensure a better life for all in the province. She further stressed that they would use the allocated budget to effectively hold the Exco accountable and take right decisions that would benefit the people.
“The Legislature has been allocated a total budget of R375,8 million in the 2019/20 financial year. The budget has been allocated to our three programmes namely, administration (R128,9 million), facilities for members and political parties (R148,3 million), and parliamentary services (R98,6 million). The total allocation for political parties represented in the Legislature during the 2019/20 financial year is R76,2 million. The funds are for constituency allowances, political party funding and political party support,” Lerule-Ramakhanya explained.
She concluded by saying that the challenges ahead demand that Members of the Legislature work together to contribute in the growth and development of the province and unite to grow the economy of Limpopo and fight against poverty and unemployment.
