The Department of Transport and Community Safety continues to lead on own revenue collection by contributing 44,1% of the total provincial own revenue, primarily through motor vehicle licences and taxes.
This is according to Provincial Treasury MEC Seaparo Sekoati who tabled his office’s budget vote speech at the Legislature in Lebowakgomo last Tuesday. He said the planned extension of motor vehicle registration and licencing services to Provincial Registering Authorities in 2019/20 will not only benefit revenue collection but also allow more access to public services.
Sekoati stated that, given the prevailing economic downtimes, it was imperative that while departments, municipalities and public entities do more with less, they should accelerate their efforts in timeously collecting all revenue due to them. The revenue target for the 2019/20 financial year is R1,3 billion, he explained and added that Limpopo has sustained an annual total collection of over R1 billion for a period of more than five years.
