Chuene Maleka and Alfred Mothapo, the two adult suspects in the murder case of Thorisho Themane, will appear in the local magistrate’s court again on Wednesday after the matter was postponed on Tuesday.
The nine minors implicated in the case are expected to appear again in the juvenile court on the same day, according to Provincial Police Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo.
Maleka and Mothapo and the minors whose ages range from 13 to 17, stand accused of the alleged killing of Themane in February.
Themane died in hospital on 23 February after he was allegedly attacked by a group of youngsters in Flora Park. The incident was filmed and trending on social media within hours.
Police took five of the teenage suspects into custody two days later. This was followed by the arrest of a sixth minor suspect, a girl, who was released soon afterwards as she could not be linked to the incident. Three adults were apprehended three days after the killing followed by the arrest of two more teens. The third adult was also released after he could not be linked to the case.
In May some more arrests were made bringing the total number of suspects, including Maleka and Mothapo, to 11.
